Young person ADHD assessment

ADHD assessments for young people

Robb Psychology Kent provides specialist ADHD assessments for young people through Autism Kent, our dedicated neurodiversity assessment branch.

Our comprehensive assessments follow NICE guidance and consider the young person's development, strengths and difficulties across home, education and everyday life.

What does the assessment involve?

Before the assessment, we gather background information through questionnaires completed by parents/carers and the young person, alongside information from their school, educational setting or another professional who knows them well. We also review any relevant previous reports.

The assessment includes a detailed developmental and clinical interview, using recognised ADHD assessment tools such as the Young DIVA-5.

We also spend time with the young person to understand their own experiences, strengths and difficulties. QbCheck, a computer-based assessment, provides additional objective information relating to attention, activity and impulsivity.

Outcome and report

Our clinicians bring together all of the information gathered to determine whether the young person meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD.

The outcome is discussed with the family and followed by a comprehensive written report, including personalised recommendations for support. Helpful recommendations are provided whether or not an ADHD diagnosis is made.

After an ADHD diagnosis

Where appropriate, recommendations may include support at home, adjustments within education and psychological strategies.

If medication is being considered, this can be discussed with the young person's GP or an appropriate private prescribing service.
