What will happen during my first assessment appointment for therapy?

Your assessment appointment allows for the opportunity to discuss your situation and what might help. It is natural that you may feel a little uncomfortable and nervous at first - this is completely normal and reflects the experience of how most people feel when they come for the first session. Our therapists are very experienced and will do their best to put you at ease. Just arrive for your appointment and we'll take it from there. You will be asked some questions about your situation, your background, and told a bit more about how we work and what might be best for you. During your assessment we will explore what the next best step for you is.

How do I choose the right therapy to suit my needs?

We will discuss suitable options for you after your first or second appointment and suggest a therapy plan tailored to your specific needs, goals and values. Often more than one type of therapy may be beneficial for a client. If there is a particular therapy that you would like to try, then please do mention this in your initial enquiry or appointment. We offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  Click here to read more about the main therapies available at Robb Psychology Kent.

How long does each session take?

We ask you to allow approximately one hour for your initial consulation. If we decide to work together then therapy sessions thereafter are 50 minutes.

Full autism assessments take approximately 3-4 hours in total. Please visit to find out more about this branch of our service.

Do I need to get a referral from my GP or other health professional to see someone?

Referrals are accepted from individual clients, GP's, Psychiatrists, other Health Professionals, Solicitors and Providers of Rehabilitation Case Management. We are registered with all major health insurance providers, including Bupa, Aviva, Simply Health & Pru Health.

Where is your clinic?

Our consulting rooms are in Whitstable, Kent which is within easy reach of Canterbury, Faversham, Herne Bay, Ramsgate, Margate, Malling, Maidstone, Sittingbourne and Medway. There is parking available onsite.

Online therapy is available to clients across the UK.

Can I use my health insurance policy to fund my therapy?

We are registered with all the main health insurance providers, so if you are covered, we should be able to see you. However, it is best to contact your insurance provider in the first instance to check what cover you have and to find out what you need to do. Once your treatment has been approved by your insurance provider, you will be given an authorisation number, which you will need to provide to us when you book your first session.

Do we provide reports?

Therapy related reports for your GP, Psychiatrist or other Healthcare Providers will incur additional fees. We will discuss the fees with you prior to the report being written and these will be determined by the amount of time it will take to prepare the reports.

The autism assessment process includes a full comprehensive report, which you will receive and can be copied to your doctor, with your consent.
